RPTS Professor Richard C. Gamble Releases New Biblical Theology

Written by Staff | Friday, June 26, 2009

PITTSBURGH/Christian Newswire/ — P & R Publishing has just released the first of a three-volume Biblical Theology entitled The Whole Counsel of God by Dr. Richard C. Gamble, a world-renowned Calvin scholar who returned to his hometown of Pittsburgh in 2005 to serve as professor of systematic theology at the Reformed Presbyterian Theological Seminary (RPTS: see www.rpts.edu).

“Nothing comparable in scope has been done in the last hundred years within the circles of Reformed orthodoxy,” said Dr. John M. Frame, professor of systematic theology and philosophy at Reformed Theological Seminary, Orlando.

Gamble’s first volume just released, entitled God’s Mighty Acts in the Old Testament, unveils Old Testament theology within the organic, progressive, and historical development of the Bible. Topics thoroughly span the canon, days of creation, faith and reason, covenants, the Ten Commandments, Old Testament ecclesiology, the nature of God, justification, and Old Testament apologetics. The 894- page hardback is available at seminary bookstores and online through P & R Publishing, Amazon.com, and Barnes & Noble (retail, $39.99).

“This is a major work,” said Ian Thompson, vice- president of marketing at P & R Publishing. “We have had systematic theologies in one volume that don’t quite cover enough ground, or with the quirks of the writer still in place, but we haven’t had a modern, accessible systematic theology that includes a Biblical and historical approach. Richard Gamble is known as an inspiring communicator to generations of pastors and here his skills are much in evidence.”

Gamble contributed to the Handbook for Calvin’s Institutes, one publication of a multi-volume commemorative series produced by Calvin500, an organization coordinating the Quincentenary celebration of the birth of John Calvin June 30 to July 10 in Geneva, Switzerland, for which he also will lecture.
