Doulos Resources announces the release of its latest resource, an updated and reprinted edition of James M. Chaney’s book William the Baptist.
Dr. Philip Douglass, Professor at Covenant Theological Seminary (and member of the Doulos Resources Board of Directors) said of this book, “Some have said that William the Baptist is the finest book ever written on baptism.” First published in 1877, William the Baptist has been out of print for years, with only facsimile editions available.
In this short book presented in a narrative format, Chaney tells the tale of William, who is such a committed Baptist that he earns the monicker “William the Baptist.” But William marries an astute and committed Presbyterian, who will not join his church because they will not allow it without re-baptism, and that would cause her to repudiate hers. Consequently, William enters into a dialog with her Presbyterian pastor, who, over a series of conversations, discusses baptism from the teachings of Scripture alone, presenting the arguments for Reformed meaning and mode, as well as for infant baptism.
In the edition of William the Baptist from Doulos Resources, the language has been gently updated, Scripture quotations have been changed from KJV to ESV, many unattributed Scripture references have been footnoted, and a Scripture index added. The text has also been formatted into a size, typeset, and binding that makes it much more pleasant reading than the facsimile versions. Ed Eubanks, Co-Director of Doulos Resources and editor of this volume, said, “We believe that these changes represent a helpful re-presentation of an already excellent resource.”
William the Baptist is available in print for only $7.95, directly from Doulos Resources. It is also available in both print and Kindle versions at Amazon.com. Two sample chapters are also available for free, in PDF form, from the Doulos Resources website.
Pricing for bookstores and other resellers is offered; for more information, contact Doulos Resources: [email protected]. Special pricing of $5.00 per copy is also being made available to churches and ministries who would wish to distribute copies to their members.
William the Baptist is the first of what the Doulos Resources Board hopes will be many updated volumes. “What Kevin Twit and others are doing for hymns, we want to do for classic Christian literature,” Douglass said.
